Dining at Circles
Since Kim seems to like food, heheh, and I was just thinking of the relativity of the recession and how there still is plenty of food all around, I thought I would share some of the pictures I took at a buffet in the Philippines. They have quite a few buffets there, and this was just one of them. We have lots of buffets here in Los Angeles, too, so it’s not like this is foreign stuff. And of course anyone who has been on a cruise (right Kim?), would be all too familiar with these types of buffets. But it’s still fun to look at how creative chefs can get with their cooking, especially desserts. This was in the Shangri-La Hotel. The restaurant is called Circles. I was told that each week they have a different theme. The weekend I was there the theme was “Down Under,” hence the attire of the waiters and the koala running about who stopped to take a picture with me.
My dad is off to the left too busy chowing down to bother with the koala.
As I mentioned this restaurant is a buffet, so they had chefs cooking at the various stations. Here is one of the dessert chefs making fudge, which one can just take whenever he’s done.
They had so much food, but I mostly took pics of the desserts because since I’m generally pretty strict with my diet, I at least could enjoy the “look” of the desserts and reminisce of the times when I used to eat these things with wild abandon, ha ha. Here’s some of them.
And more desserts.
And more desserts.
A small sampling of their breads.
Now I don’t know why I started off with the desserts. It just happened that the desserts were more easily seen and more photogenic, I think. But there were plenty of main dishes and side dishes such as this sushi bar.
Anyone who knows me would know that that’s one of the first places that I would be sure to hit.
This is a shot of more food, but hard to see from the way they are placed. I think this is the salad area.
There were much more food spreads that I didn’t take pictures of mainly because my mouth started watering, and I had to dig in and chuck the camera. There were chefs preparing hot dishes and sliced off meats as requested. Here’s what my “first” dish looked like.
Can you say protein overload? There was really too much food to taste everything. What a shame, but just to think that they have these buffets every week. So much food everywhere! And this is only “one” restaurant.
Here was my dessert. I actually behaved pretty well and just stuck primarily to the fruits.
This is a small sampling of what I mean about there being so much food everywhere. When I think of it, it’s not just in the Philippines where there was so much food, but so many other places I’ve gone to and even just right here in Los Angeles, or on any one of the cruise ships, or all those fancy hotels in Europe and Asia. I remember when we toured Turkey “every” breakfast and dinner was a full buffet with spreads like these. And to think that people are starving in other parts of the world? It’s hard to think that the world can not support our world population. And this is just a sampling of the restaurants, how about the markets? There are markets galore here and all fully stocked. I don’t buy the idea that we need genetic engineering to feed our world population. I think it is more a matter of proper distribution. The food needs to go to the right places, not become more limited and controlled by the few through too much regulation and genetic engineering. It’s hard to imagine the planned famine in the Ukraine during 1932-33, or the starvation that occurs during wartime due to the distruction of crops and livestock and the forced relocation and evacuation of civilians.

Well, it is not just the taste of food, but the colors and arrangement as if it was an art that makes it so attractive! Thank you for sharing. The fruit would have been what I ended up with also. That was some buffet! The cruise ship should take note!
